style friday: patterned pants, please

happy friday, all! it finally feels like spring in kc and it’s about time. for sping13 we’re crazy over patterns.

after taking much greif (cough, cough, chad.) jordan decided to ask a stylist on set if patterned pants really were too much…. turns out that she confirmed our thoughts about how much they rocked and that confirmation inspired a major pinning spree.

there are several ways to pull off patterned pants. we’ve pinned some of our favorites. let’s face it…they rock. and you will too, if you wear them. they scream confidence and cool!

we’ve pinned (and fallen head over heels for) florals, polka dot, animal prints, geometrics, tribal prints and more! with so many options you’ll find a pair you can dress up or dress down.

now get out and by yourself a pair. halls kansas city has some great options and if you don’t already follow them in instagram, you should! their feed is full spring fashion and loads of pattern right now.

oh, and our good friend meg at chasing davies recently posted about a pair of perfect patterned pants. and what’s better than a pair of patterned pants? REVERSIBLE patterned pants! oh, yes! these are a must see. head over to meg’s blog to check them out.

will you be wearing patterned pants this spring and summer? leave your thoughts in the comments section, tag @heathermorrow on instagram or post on our facebook page. we’d love to know how you plan to style them and where you’re finding your favorites!

happy friday!

H & J

a girl and her beloved horse – tiffany’s senior portraits

meet my darling cousin tiffany, a class of 2013 senior. i adore her and everything about her senior portrait session!

the fabulous melissa evans did tiffany’s hair and makeup. we started off with some studio portraits on the purple velvet sofa everyone loves.

then we headed outside for some urban senior portraits.

and we ended our session at tiffany’s family farm with her beloved horse winnie. i’ve photographed several seniors with their horses and none were as cooperative as winnie. i love that first image so much. winnie seems so protective.

this last series was taken the day i photographed tiffany’s best friend ashley – she tagged along for some bff portraits that day and i couldn’t resist snappig a few shots of tiffany while ashley was changing.

sweet tiffany, i can’t wait to see where life takes you after graduation. the whole world is at your fingertips and i know that no matter where the road leads, you’ll find success.

lots of love,

if you’re a 2013 or 2014 senior and you go to school with tiffany, email or call us at 913.787.2527 to find out how you can save up to $200 on your own senior portrait session!

and don’t forget about our exclusive prom portrait promotion!

style friday – prom dresses (and a prom portrait special)

happy friday, fashionistas! have you seen the march issue of her life magazine? this month’s trendsetter is b | e boutique. i had so much fun shooting prom dresses in my studio. check out some of the latest trends from designers like sherri hill, love 16 by enzoani, night moves, jovani and tony bowls.

as a girl who has always wished the was alive during the roaring 20s, i’m madly in love with the navy blue fringe dress and the flapper vibe it has.

this gorgeous white gown – to die for. and i couldn’t resist a close up of beautiful alea. she’s flawless.

who doesn’t love a little bit (or a lot) of sparkle? and the long pink gown was beautiful by itself but when i spotted that silver beaded belt i knew it would provide the perfect finishing touch. last time i shot for b | e boutique i actually bought that same belt in white and i wear it quite a bit.

a couple of behind the scenes shots.

thanks to our model alea saunders of exposure, inc.melissa evans for her fabulous makeup skills and heidi bowles and crystal wisniewski of soffia via for working their hair magic.

b | e boutique is located at 12213 shawnee mission parkway, shawnee, ks 66216. if you’re shopping for prom dresses, stop by and tell them i sent you!

prom is just around the corner and we think all girls deserve amazing photos like these. round up your friends, come to the studio for hair and makeup and fabulous photos in your prom dresses.

see below for details and call us today to reserve your prom date. availability is limited!

master gardener wendy clay for her life magazine

i’m so happy that the march issue of her life magazine is finally out and i can share these images. i photographed master gardener wendy clay at family tree nursery on one of the coldest days of the year. shooting inside the temperature controlled greenhouse was amazing! we all decided to pretend it was spring, even if only for a few hours. the light in the greenhouse was phenomenal and the color….don’t even get my started on the color. you can see for yourself how amazing it was, especially after drudging through these last few cold wintery months.

we had the usual suspects working together – melissa evans for makeup and amber sexton of double take salon for hair – but we also had someone new this time. we were lucky enough to score the wardrobe styling services of one of my favorite kansas city fashion bloggers, meg davey of chasing davies. be sure to check out meg’s blog for more details on the wardrobe provided by halls kansas city and some behind the scenes photos as well!

i loved shooting wendy and learning about her passion for gardening. i find myself in awe of those with a green thumb. i love plants and flowers but i’ve often sworn my thumbs are brown rather than green. wendy was kind enough to help me pick out a beautiful potted succulent arrangement before we left family tree and she guided me through the care process.

wendy, you’ll be pleased to know that 37 days later it’s still alive. quick! everyone! knock on wood, say a hail mary, cross your fingers and throw some salt over your shoulder!

between wardrobe changes i snapped a few photos of some of the lovely orchids. i wish i would have brought a macro lens. i just might have to go back for another visit. walking around the greenhouse was like it’s own form of therapy – so peaceful and calming. i totally get why wendy loves being outside and gardening. i just wish i had her skills.

and, of course, i had to squeeze in a little iphoneography. i’m only slightly obsessed with instagram. (you can follow me here.)

if you can’t find her life magazine around town check it out online at www.herlifemagazine.com. click on local editions and choose kansas city.

until next time,

brittany and bobby – kansas city senior portraits

i photographed brittany and bobby’s older sister alexis last year.

brittany tagged along for alexis’ shoot and the laughter was non-stop. to say that my cheeks and stomach muscles hurt at the end of this session would be the understatement of the century. brittany and alexis are close in age like my own girls and i loved watching them interact.

at the end of alexis’ senior portrait session we rallied the troops and snuck in a little family portrait time. i adore how close the whole family is, always laughing, loving and encouraging one another. this will forever be one of my most favorite families to photograph. they are a family with an amazing bond that i truly admire – the kind of bond i hope to have with my own family.

while alexis was beginning her freshman year of college, twins brittany and bobby were beginning their senior year of high school and i was thrilled to get the call to take their senior portraits. i knew this would be another laughter and fun filled session and i was absolutely right.

thanks to kansas city makeup artist and hair stylist melissa evans for lending her awesome talents.

brittany and bobby, with the love and support of your family and your own love of life i have no doubt you will find success in whatever paths you choose to take.

lots of love to both of you,
